MJ should make their announcement as many on the fence may be taking their fest money there now.

I decided to do both. But you are absolutely right Misterbrow. Both fests are within striking distance of a lot of the attendees. Now that the Gathering vibes list is up. People will be choosing this weekend before MJ goes up in price...

Snow day for me... maybe stir up some trouble... top to bottom in order of billing... MJ vs. GotV:
Keys v Wilco - Wilco Plant v SCI - push, edge Plant, legend Shakes v Harper - push MULE v Weezer - MULE Grace v Gregg - Gregg, edge Gregg everytime could be the last MOE v TTB - TTB Franti v Billy - push, dinner time either way Gigantic v Sharon - Sharon Rebulation v GLA - push JRAD v Word - Word RRE v Zappa - Zappa LSD v DSO - LSD Trigger v Greensky - Trigger Shakey v Preservation - Shakey Booker v Bananana - Booker Bluhm v Kung Fu - Kung Fu Wailers v Twiddle - Wailers Dopapod v Jaimoe - push
The rest are schedule opportunities or casualties and MJ has more announced at this point.
6-5-6. More even than I thought. I would be more excited for: Wilco, MULE, Gregg, TTB, Sharon, Word, JRAD, RRE, Zappa, LSD, DSO, Trigger, Shakey, Booker, Kungfu, Wailers. Wouldn't even be asking for the moon with that lineup either.

Well folks money and politics surrounding Mountain Jam may have effected our line up. It almost seems as though the promoters are going forward with the festival as is. I hope I'm wrong but at this point I don't know if there is going to be another wave of additions. Maybe a few xtra acoustic performances (by existing artist)in the hall or a few workshops but that may very well be it. Somebody please prove me wrong...

Wouldn't be surprised if they didn't announce any other bands but a few kids bands and acoustic sets. I just get that vibe this year.

seems to me they would be coming up way short of the 40 mark. do you think they would start the music later in the day?? right now i think it comes to 7 bands a day.

Each day kind of pushes me closer to where I was after the disaster of MJ 9. It was a mourning then, it is becoming boredom now.
It is funny that we get Gary seemingly more active and transparent and at the same time we sink... the MJ vibe made me think we were moving forward. Was it just damage control because the tickets were not moving?
At least an announcement announcement...

I thought that was by far the best Mtn Jam lineup of any I have attended (5, 6, 7, 9, 10).

My crew and I have MJ 9 as the worst, we have been to every one in some combination of members.
The first year of TownSquare only in "association with Warren Haynes", the prices jacked up, fences, increased VIP options, second worse security of the ten, a snoozer MULE, and yes- the weather. We only stayed to Sunday because I said on Friday morning after being awakened by security banging on our door that I was staying to see Jackie Green and ALO. PRIMUS was great even in the rain and WSP delivered, but the bulk of the bands we wanted to see were relegated to inside (where we kept running into people like Warren, Danny, and Farmer). We left after Jackie and it was the only time I have left not feeling renewed and counting down from 361.
If the old forums were still accessible it would be easier to see.

Well, agree to disagree then. The weather was terrible in 2013, but I thought the music was great. Also, I don't allow VIP choices (none of which I made) affect my enjoyment of a festival. I'll agree with you on security, but as a festival grows, its security inevitably changes. If you're looking for a free for all, you'll have a better chance finding it at a small regional festival with attendance less than half of what Mtn Jam has.
Back to discussing Mtn Jam IX's music... Primus, Mule, Panic, and Phil is a top end of the lineup that Mtn Jam hasn't touched before or since. Avetts, Dispatch, Jackie Greene, and Franti all fit perfectly in the late afternoon/early evening time slots. Big G, Soulive and White Denim were all great late nights. Deer Tick, The Revivalists, and Futurebirds all surprised me. If it weren't for the rain Mtn Jam IX would probably have been my favorite festival ever.

I was a big fan of MJ IX. Thursday and Friday weather was miserable, but I had a blast both days. Between Primus, Kung Fu, 4ontheFloor, and Big Gigantic on Thursday to Deer Tick, Avetts, Futurebirds, Panic & White Denim on Friday it was a great time. Avetts in the rain was all-time epic and I was a big fan of Deer Tick's set in the rain too. And of course Primus was insane. The only thing that the weather kind of ruined for me was Panic. By the time they went on I needed a break and took a pretty long one at the campsite. Went down to see them about halfway through their set and i couldn't get fully into it. The weather wore on me by that time b/c it was going strong all day. Then the sun came out Saturday and Sunday was beautiful. My only other regrets were missing SIMO and The Revivalists and not staying for Phil but overall it was one of my favorites.

No worries, it just didn't have that home again MJ vibe for us. And you are right, though not exactly looking for a free for all, I am looking for a small regional festival. Maybe two and a half days plus a small show Thursday night? Two nights headlined by a three piece band that kicks like... a mule? Maybe on a mountainside? A little "village" that would bring some "awareness" to causes? Free parking?

We have been to MJ 8,9 &10(followed it for a few years before that) MJ8 was the last year that Thursday was NOT sold as a single day ticket & the last Year they had the Awareness Village Stage(saw Franti and Zach Deputy there) Those are 2 of the biggest things that changed. So we kinda came in at the end of one Era and the beginning of another. MJ9 was Great,in our opinion(didn't mind missing WSP due to rain OR sitting through the rain for Primus,Big Gigantic and Mule) but even though it was only our 2nd MJ,we could easily see the changes. MJ10 had not as many fundamental changes(except maybe the one GIANT stage that blocked out the view of the Mountains behind it!) and it seems that none of these changes have made people happier just more disgruntled. This Year the line up just didn't do it for us and it made the decision to sit out a Year very easy. So we will still be here on the boards and looking forward to next Year and a possible return.
