I'm interested in opinions. Whats the weakest, if any, headliner and or performer already announced?

Off the subject line I was going to say Temporary Saint. His posting numbers have fallen well off in the last two years; and he undervalues "Like Flies" and Smarties candy.
Back on topic, no offense, I have to say Black Keys. I understand they have to sell tickets and the investors must like to see the name there and nobody wants 15,000 Misterbraus on the mountain anyway... I hear one is enough. Other than Avetts and Bob Weir any recycled past headliner would be better for me. Moving Shakes to mid tier and cutting Keys I would have been happier with Steve Miller or Doobies - or some other classic rock radio regulars - or Willie Nelson like Peach has which could have brought PotR.
The rest of the line up is fine but really lacks one that I am really psyched to see. I realize that adding the Drive by Truckers, Jason Isbell, Kevn Kinney, Seasick Steve, and The Radiators would make me goofy happy, but likely make others angry disappointed. Heck, if they added Andy Poxon or the Tom Larsen Blues Band we could drive up together and that would be fun for me. (Google those guys- Poxon grew up round the corner, stories abound down here about being a TL fan or Thorogood fan) I guess I am saying it really is unique to everyone, but this line up is weird in a way. I've described it as we're going to be doing a lot of walking around sampling. That is what we ended up doing for MJ8 - and that was the line up I think we were most looking forward to.
Two years ago my crew was miserable and angry. The increased expense, the weather, and a snoozer MULE set had us finally ready to call it quits. This from a trio that had attended 22/27 jams. That line up had Primus, Panic, Phil, ALO and a host of bands relegated to Colonel's Hall which worked out for us. Last year when we heard ABB rumors, Anders, Blitzen Trapper, CRB, TTB, Jackie, Randolph, UM, Tweedy, DSO... listened to Antibalas and Reignwolf... we were willing to come back. We added another member and the weather was great.
This year, we are going because we were caught between pulling the trigger and missing our RV reservation despite the line up. Keys were the WTF for us. The line up is not what is making us return. And so, they are the weakest link.
(Not everybody likes licorice, but those that do, really like it)

Skipping Mtn Jam this Year. Schedule just doesn't do it for us. Gonna shoot for Peach and see what it's like there. Lots of the undercard Bands that we wanted to see at Mtn Jam are playing there and Santana and Bobby as Headliners with I think a Thursday Headliner to be announced. Will only miss out on Moe.,Robert Plant, and the Dark side of the Mule set.

Really good objective points MBrow
For me, Sunday's whole line up looks weak, I might pull up stakes and move along before most. I'm not a shakes fan, I've tried but at my age I know what I like and it doesn't appeal to me. I appreciate how hard they perform and applaud them for becoming a head liner but, like MBrow, I feel they are mid-level.
I'm locked In, one of the problems when you buy tix on the first announcement, before the line up is announced. Im also into the whole festival atmosphere, so my investment in tix and parking is still a good value.
Just not getting the warm and fuzzy feeling with Sunday.

I hope that my opinion is changed when I see them live, but I'm not very excited about Robert Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters. Look, I know that Plant is a living legend and that the music of Led Zeppelin is amazing, but nothing I have watched or listened to of him and his current band has been that impressive. Luckily, DSOTMule is the late night on Friday, so I won't be too upset if we decide to spend a little time at the campsite and recharge during the Plant set. We sprung for Mtn Top camping this year, so I think we will still be able to hear it at least.
I'm really not overly thrilled with the other headliners this year either. The Black Keys are fine, but I have seen them a couple times already and don't expect their show to be much different than what I've already seen. Alabama Shakes are a let down since I also think they are a mid-tier and not headlining band, but I'm actually ok with them taking the Sunday slot. I'm usually ready to hit the road by Sunday night, so that won't be an issue this year. I like moe. and think they will put on a great show on Thursday, but since the other headliners are so disappointing (to me) I just wish we could have gotten something special on Thursday. Even bringing back UM would have given more of a chance of a special Thursday night on the mountain.
Now I'll stop the negativity and mention who I am excited to see: Mule, GP&N, Franti (nothing better on a Sunday afternoon), JRAD (!!!), RRE, Lake Street Dive, Trigger Hippy, Shakey Graves, Dopapod, Hurray for the Riff Raff, and Marco Benevento. There are still a bunch of bands I'm really excited to see at Mountain Jam this year, so I'm trying to look on the bright side.
I will certainly have an awesome time, and some bands are guaranteed to surprise me with their performances. I just wish that this festival hadn't made such a huge change at the top end of the lineup so quickly. In 2013 and 2014, this festival completely lived up to its Mtn Jam name by hosting jam legends like Phil Lesh, Widespread Panic, Allman Brothers, and Bob Weir. They also had some great jams on the under card with Primus, Soulive, Tedeschi Trucks, Umphreys, and Chris Robinson Brotherhood. This year we get moe., RRE, and JRAD, and they are all playing on the same day. That is a very quick shift away from what I thought this festival was known for.
Mountain Jam XI is sorely missing a big time jam headliner. I just wish they could have somehow landed SCI, Bob+Billy and the Kids, Phil & Friends, or Panic. Look around the festival landscape, though, and basically every jam-based festival except for Lockn' is lacking in headliners this year. The ABB is done and Phil/Bob have cut back their schedules significantly. This "problem" of a lack of big name jam bands is not limited to the Mountain.

as stated , its opinion. when comparing from last years line up,to this year, its a different vibe. but all these acts can deliver on stage. most acts are the same from one venue to the next, thats to be expected. there are a few acts that i wont be racing down the hill to see, Rebelution... and some acts seem pretty similar, nikki lane, Nicki Bluhm, hurray for riff raff.... had hoped they mixed it up a bit more but it will all be a fun filled time!

I think it'll be funs -I wish there was a dead like artist (JRAD IS Certainly grate) like Bobby last year which was a ton of fun. That said part of the festie experience is learning about bands you may or may not of heard about or of before. looking forward to finding more of you guys this go round!

Shakes are def the weak link for me. going from Phil-> ABB-> Shakes is a serious downgrade in headliner closers for this year.

I wanted mule>keys>mule Saturday. Think about it, mule usually plays 2 sets on Saturday night, if they had mule>keys>mule we would still get 2 mule sets and we would get a young cool rock band. I would be happy if they did that every year. Next year it could be mule>beck>mule, the next year could be mule>mmj>mule and so on. When I found out it was going to be mule>keys>big g I was kind of disappointed, I do like big g but I like my idea better. I do like the shakes and agree they are mid-teir but feel like there's something missing.
They need some good acts in between big g/rre and Benjamin Booker, I'm thinking soulive, msmw, hot tuna, London souls, Zach deputy and Ryan montblue( the last two are northeast fest regulars and mt jam should get them more often). All these bands would be great day time acts.
And one more thing BRING BACK GOVT MULE'S HEADLINING SET.

Shakes are def the weak link for me. going from Phil-> ABB-> Shakes is a serious downgrade in headliner closers for this year. Totally agree regarding Sunday headliner band, but I think that if the Shakes took over an Avett Brothers type slot (Fri/Sat pre-headliner) that they would be stars of the festival. I just don't understand how a band with one album that didn't really get BIG touring for that album somehow turns into a festival headliner for their unreleased second album.

Last year should have tipped you off that Mtn Jam don't give a fuck. When its the 10th anniversary and you cant get the closing band to play the song the fest is named after AND the guitarist/promoter is part of said band, your fucked!

doesn't and you're...
I doubt they asked. Playing MJ has been done numerous times.
The time the PA announced, "Run to the lodge! The basement will be safest!" is when I thought I was fucked.

archive.org/details/spearhead2010-06-06.sunboy.flac16MJ 6 during Franti a big storm poured over the mountain, of course he kept playing and made the sun come back out. Sound of Sunshine was soooooooo fitting. Up to that point Franti controlling the weather was a joke. This one made us believe, everyone else was converted by the rainbow during his set a few years later.
