doesn't and you're... I doubt they asked. Playing MJ has been done numerous times. The time the PA announced, "Run to the lodge! The basement will be safest!" is when I thought I was fucked. Sorry i didn't realize you were the grammar police on this board. So when has Mountain Jam been played before? must have missed that one. Can you tell us more about Franti and weather? Did he say how you feeling?

"I saw a lady on T.V. She was born without arms. Literally, she was born with her hands attached to her shoulders... and that was sad, but then they said "Lola does not know the meaning of the word 'can't.'" And that to me was kinda worse... In a way... Y'know? Not only does she not have arms, but she doesn't understand simple contractions. It's very simple, Lola, you just take two words, you put them together, then you take out the middle letter, you put a comma in there and you raise it up!"
For starters... ABB opened with MJ at MJ6 in 2009.
Play the archive link.
Of course he asked. He always asks. He cares.

Bigfoot is blurry, and that's extra scary to me. There's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside. Run, he's fuzzy, get out of here.

So these are my humble thoughts.. Being a festival rookie. This will be my second MJ, second festival ever. First MJ was amazing, ended up there because I followed the ABB and my friend and I thought it would be awesome to give a festival a try. Absolutely amazing , the music, the people, the weather! I missed a lot, but took in more then expected, bands that I would never think to follow became favorites. ABB was of course amazing and I wish I could say I remembered Mule...But I do not..however I saw them a bunch of times at the beacon and they do not disappoint. I will not make the same mistake and curtail my partying and see every set! Most excited for late night dark side of the mule! That being said I am a believer that beginnings and endings should always leave an impression. Thursday nights lineup looks amazing and I don't seem to be alone in that opinion! Completely bummed my entry will be Friday morning! The ending headliner has me perplexed, did I miss something? I know very little about Alabama Shakes.. Well perhaps it's because they don't have much to offer. I decided to give them a try watched a special of them live which aired on ACL. There was zero chemistry within the band.. Her emotions seemed forced, she just seemed to growl her songs hippo like with her robot band behind her.... As the cameras scanned the crowd they too were motionless. The lyrics were predictable and she is not believable. No chemistry what so ever. Soul? Rock?... Nope. Weakest link has to be them...boring , don't deserve to be a final act. While i don't plan on packing up camp.. I will of course give them their shot.. MJ seems to think them worthy. I hope that I see the gritty soulful rock that they claim to be. Overall very psyched, can't wait to add new favorites to my list!!

And you can be the chief of police. So, Alabama Shakes are the Saturday Night Live musical guest this week, there second time. I guess they are money enough to headline. Black Keys played SNL last year. I hope this isn't where MJ is taking their cues, I mean I would not mind some Prince or Paul McCartney, but Keys followed ColdPlay last year. My favorite SNL performance....

Not sure why Alabama Shakes are getting all this negative feedback. I saw them a few years ago and thought they were amazing. No emotion? No chemistry? Wrong. It looked to me when I saw them that she was pouring out her guts up there and I thought they had pretty good chemistry. She has one of the most powerful voices in the current scene if you ask me. There's a reason why many musicians want to play with them and there's a reason why they are closing Sunday. I agree Plant should be closing the festival, but maybe he is tied up Sunday or something. It doesn't really matter to me, b/c Plant on Friday is gonna be fucking awesome. I have no doubts that A.Shakes is going to blow minds and surprise doubters on Sunday. They are a solid band. No, they don't play 15 minute jams, but they put everything into those 4 minutes or so. People are too fixated on the past legends. There is some good shit going on in the current scene if you pay attention to it and no, it's not all jam bands. I would take Alabama Shakes over someone like Steve Winwood all day. And, Misterbrow any time you want the Doobies or Steve Miller, just go to your local casino or State Fair and you should be good. lol

I think it is the Sunday closer thing. Billed above MULE.
If my fair had Miller and Doobies I would say come on down and crash here. However, about several years of low tier boy band types we only get 38 Special and Grand Funk Railroad this year.

It is called mountain JAM for a reason. The shakes and black keys are very popular, however are not for me, as well as not a jam band in the least. They are going away from what the festival is about. Keep jacking those ticket prices up and see how many people start to bail. Ive been going for 7 years now and i think that may be it for me. The lineup is weak and especially if you look at what the peach fest has to offer at such a lower rate.

Been to the last 6 Jams and had a great time at every one of them. I am excited about this years line-up and will be very surprised when it's all said and done that even the doubters will walk away impressed. If you want to see a weak line-up, check out the Vibes this year. Yes there are some great bands and they will surely add a Dead band or two, but this year is lacking. Can't wait to see Plant and gang and am really looking forward to A Shakes. They are not the typical Sunday night closer at M Jam, as that slot has been mostly a tribute to older acts and history. However, the Shakes, in my mind, are a fabulous up and coming band that continues to build a larger and larger following. Their music is something fresh and from the past at the same time. About the comment on the audience or band not into it, poke around a little more, there's a lot on youtube showing a whole other side to their shows.

Surprisingly happy to see so many sticking up for shakes. They have big shoes to fill for sure!! Even if I don't feel the passion or their vibe, glad that others do! l will def give them their fair chance! Overall love music that's why I'm pitching a tent for days on a mountain:)

The reason it is called MOUNTAIN Jam is because it takes on a MOUNTAIN referred to as Hunter MOUNTAIN . Mountain JAM had more to do with Warren playing in the ABB and playing Mountain Jam on a near nightly basis.
There has been more of a slide to more Americana stuff since the Levon B'day party. The lineup has always been more musicians that musicians listen to. Highly skilled musicians that can jam, whether they tend to do so regularly in their sets is another thing. A jammer doesn't have to be a 30 minute version of a song that noodles endlessly. A jammer can pick up and sit in with anybody at any time, like Warren. I can see Brittany and Warren singing a duet.
Either way... when are we getting the rest of the names?

Grateful that someone said a good "Jam" doesn't need to be 30 minutes of noodling. IMHO, it can pertain to any music played live that departs from the studio version of a song. Putting a new spin on it or trying interesting arraignments. Having said that, take Robert Plant, his live renditions of old zeppelin songs are cool reinventions. I know people will disagree, but the shakes do jam out their songs. They are just not 15+ minutes
