I've been a few times, used to be awesome now corporate bullshit.
Line up is decent this year, nothing special if you've been doing the festy circuit for a few years. I think the only band I'd like to see that I've not is Beats Antique.
Fortunately their playing local to me next month.
Most of the headliners will turn up at GoTV which is a much, much, much better run event. The performances tend to be better as well(related I'm sure), case in point being the Revivalists last year.
I'm not just going to jump in and scream It's CRAP, I will tell you why. I've been quite a few times, it's been getting worse and worse but last year was the straw that broke the camels back.
Complaints Follow:
1. Offsite Parking is a nightmare
2. Security is Fcked, not only are the searches completely unreasonable, but there is no security in the poor folk camping zone(plus no car to lock your stuff in). Not VIP? Prepare to get robbed.
3. Prices are out of line, and you shouldn't skimp (see point 1&2)
4. Obscured stage for regular folk, VIP only path to the mountaintop, no beer check for the RV'ers at the top. We're talking Ozfest levels of douchebaggery!
5. They work hand in hand with the fascist local police. Minor screw-up with the hiding and you could do serious time.
I guess my point is there is still festival choice. You do not have to put up with this BS. You into Jam Bands? Hit Gathering. Love the funk? Hit Catskill Chill
Just wanna get wasted and listen to some new bands? Strangecreek, Wormtown and Camp Coldbrook
Probably catch them all if you buy early enough for the same price as a well apportioned Mountain Scam ticket....

Thanks for the info.. Glad to not have to put up with whiners at MT. Jam this year.... I'll be enjoying the people who do come and there to enjoy the mountain and the music. Good Riddance. Go enjoy Kanye at Bonnaroo.

Luckily, you have a choice. I have been, have had friends that have been and have never heard of these "issues" besides reading them on the net. Im with upstate drew, I ll be kicking back with a sierra nevada, listening to some great tunes and enjoying some good people. The only level of douchebaggery I have been seeing lately is these sorts of posts and the LucasDouchebeard. Hey, drew, hope to see you on the mountain buddy  |

I'm sick of hearing all this negativity towards Mt. Jam. this will be my 4th one and it is my favorite festy to hit every year. I actually got caught with something in my pocket last year and all that happened was I had to dump it on the ground. yes it was unfortunate but it was my own dumb ass fault. it could of been much worse. So if you are a Debbie Downer, please stay home, we don't want you to screw up our vibe.
Can't wait to party with everyone in a few months

This will be my 10th Mountain Jam. I have never had any problems that you speak of. Security is not fucked. People that are dumb are fucked!! Honestly, in the ten years I have gone to the mountain I have never seen a local policeman. I do agree that the pricing has gotten a bit out of control. The parking is a nightmare but it is to be expected with the growth this festival. I attend other festivals too. I enjoy them all, but there is something special about that mountain. It is such a downer to hear people complain all the time about everything.

I stand corrected. I have seen the local police at Mountain Jam. They search your car before you enter if you are camping. I have also seen the state police arrest an drunken unruly fan. I don't know about you but I really like the idea of law enforcement where there is so many people. I have never seen them do anything they should not be doing. They are not going to bust you for a little bit of pot. Don't be an idiot and do shit that brings attention to yourself. I have been to Gathering of the Vibes. The local police search your car there too.

Dougunder - the problems you listed are possible at every festival. The year I went to Bonnaroo where they do an extensive car search and don't allow fireworks, my tent almost caught fire due to my camping neighbors setting off fireworks.
But thank goodness they took my peanut butter in the glass jar...to keep people safe and all.
GOTV two years ago Saturday night 6 people were taken away by security and ambulance in a 3 hour time span.
Last year was my first time at Mt. Jam and I had no problem seeing the stage...didn't really see any special VIP area. Parking was not a problem and only had to wait 10 minutes for the shuttle.
My only complaint with any festival is that they don't let you bring in a Nalgene (or similar) bottle filled with water. You have to dump it and then pay for water - which just seems silly.

This also my 10th year, the mountain is the best. And yes I've been to others. Security has only been great, if I remember seeing them at all. I have only made friends, and enjoyed some real memorable shows. Can't wait.....

I've gone a few years and have never had any complaints other than car camping last year. Trying to get into the venue with their crazy route was ridiculous. Our car search lasted about 20sec, just asked where our coolers were and took 5sec peeks into each. Made me wonder why we had to sit in line for 3 hours and got in and the carside camping was only like 1/3 full.
My concern about this year is the lineup. I think it's really weak. It's comprised of bands everybody has seen 500 times before and no real surprises. It's just uninspired and disappointing. Think I'll be hitting moe.down instead. They've only announced a few bands so far, but feel like it already blows Mt Jam X out of the water.
