Hey ya'll. So a buddy of mine who is super lax and very "last minute" is saying he is just going to buy his ticket at the door like he does pretty much every other festy he goes too(Vibes, Lockn, and Cali Roots). Would hate to see him make it all the way there and not be able too get one there. This will be both our first MJ and looking for a little info on the subject. Thanks and cant wait to see you all there P.S. I made the smart decision and already got my tix lol

MJ tops out around 15,000 people. I do not recall there ever actually being a sell out. I remember one year getting pretty crowded but that was due to DEAD day trippers. It will not sell out prior to daily tickets for sure. There are usually tickets available on this board. I do not know how the RFID bracelets will impact scoring tickets in the parking lot. If he is traveling a ways I would say make a decision when single day tix go on sale. They will not sell out the four day passes and will not release single day until those sales have stalled. I would expect an influx of one day attendees for the Black Keys.

The way it's shaping up,We might just buy single day tickets for Thursday. Waiting till they announce the daily line up but so far that's the day when most of the bands we really wanted to see are playing(other than Robert Plant and Mule of course)

It almost definitely will not sell out, but your friend's wallet would probably appreciate him being a bit more proactive. In the weeks leading up to the festival, there will be people on this board, Facebook, and Cash or Trade that will realize they can no longer go and will be selling their tickets.
The gate price is usually significantly higher than the prices charged for earlier ticket purchases. Unless your buddy wants to spend extra money for no reason, it probably makes sense to find one of those cheaper tickets and buy from another fan who is trying to get their money back anyway.

They "might" sell out on Day tickets - but I don't believe they have ever sold out on camping passes. I've never seen any kind of statement regarding capacity or limits on ticket sales so who knows if there is a cut off number. I do think there is a finite number of day passes though but again, no idea if that's true or what number of tix that might be. Definitely been a few years when Sunday was jam packed and it sure seemed like they'd sell a ticket to anyone at any time - but those were the days before car camping and I don't think the policies were real defined then.
