I appreciate this 100x more than the letter he posted to Facebook, which I though was mere lip service. It is nice to know that Gary is taking the concerns of festival goers seriously. Sure, it is possible that his efforts will all be for naught, as he cannot control the town/county/state police, but it is great that he is trying. The perception (and reality) that Mountain Jam is a festival where people get busted for smoking a little weed during a concert is no good.
In 2014, I had a guy who was definitely an undercover asking me if he could just take a couple hits when I was chilling near the top of the mountain during a daytime set. He was upset when I informed him that all I was "smoking" was an e-cigarette. He even asked me if I was sure that was all it was and offered to give me a few bucks if I shared (which if I were smoking something illegal would make me a dealer - far worse than a possession offense). That kind of experience is not enjoyable, and even though I was doing nothing wrong, it certainly made me uncomfortable.

I'd trade Franti's fee for an ambulance.
Gotta wonder if the finances with the town is holding up the final announcement.

I re-read Gary's Q and A on FB this morning.
He mentioned several times he had told the town that he could hold the festival elsewhere. There has to be a compromise between the MJ organizers and the benefiting community. If Hunter lost the MJ festival, and I suspect the Country shindig that's held a few weeks after, the business owners would complain of the lost revenue.
I like the intimacy of Hunter Mountain, the festival is large enough to not seem crowded, but compact enough to enjoy the entire festival. If moved to another location, in future years, I believe Gary would try and duplicate the location as much as possible.
Besides the security issue, which the Council are pointing fingers toward the State Troopers... of course, their politicians and won't assume any responsibility, they are only seeing MJ as a liability, not a benefit. Other locations would welcome Gary with open arms.
Also, I believe that MBrow has hit on to something, why announce the smaller bands if the lineup would have to be cut due to the pending cost of paying off the town officials to stop barking
Penny wise, Pound foolish.......of course, since I was a politician in the past, the above statement is my opinion but I won't admit it, and leave my options open, at this time, to change

The town of Hunter isn't giving up Mountain Jam... The Village of Hunter won't stand for it..
The town of Hunter is over the villages but the villages can still have a say.. ..
