Does anyone have experience staying at the Hunter Highlands condos on the Mtn? Someone said I had to have a special pass to cut the campgrounds to go back and forth to the festival? Has anyone stayed there and what was your experience.

Talk to KenSkitall.... he is an "elitist condo dwelling snob"
And I say that with loads of chuckles and a fond heart for him. One day I will be that condo dwelling elitist snob!!

Sorry I don't know what the status was for getting in on the Highlands side of the venue . ( I'm on the hotel side of the venue Soulmate , the Highlands are the condo's over by the camping area on Hunter one side of the mountain ) However I should add that I do recall hearing that there was access into fest from the Highlands condo's by way of the camp grounds last year for whatever that's worth .

You will need a camping pass to go to and from the Highlands condo to the event site. The campgrounds lie in between in the Hunter One beginner area of the ski area. It's a quick walk and they are a great place to stay. You also should be issued a parking permit for the Highlands of you rent there.

The way I read it on the website, the only way to get a place in the on site Condos is to buy one of the VIP Tickets Packages THEN they will let you rent the Condo and I think they are very expensive. In the past the general ticket holders or anyone for that matter could get a place there if you booked early enough but not any more.

I did not need a VIP pass to rent the condo...I just called around early on so I got a place but believe...not an easy feat, owners took a long time to finally get a hold of. I was told we would be issued a parking pass but no one mentioned I had to buy a camping pass to cut through campground? Are you sure about that? Is it a quick walk?

You can't access the campgrounds from the stage area without a camping wristband, so you would need to purchase a camping pass to cut through the campgrounds to get to your condo. Otherwise, you'll have to walk around, which looks like a bit of a hike based on a quick peek at Google Maps.

Thanks everyone, good to know...wonder why the owner did not mention :-(...it's an extra $30 which is worth it to me to cut through. Can't wait for June and the amazing lineup playing! See you there!

Depending on how far up the hill the unit is ( The condo's run A-Z with 'A' starting at the bottom and the end of the alphabet would be near the cut through of the camp grounds . It's a 10 - 15 minute walk around the "Long Way" , it's not worth the extra $30 IMO .

Ya, I guess it really depends how much you plan to go back and forth and what that time is worth to you. I'm someone who likes to head back to camp multiple times a day. I generally watch all the main stage bands and skip some of the smaller stage stuff. 15 minutes each way each time would add up quick, so the $30 would 100% be worth it for me. If you're only walking to the venue one time and heading back when you're done for the day, then maybe it wouldn't be worth the extra cost.

My two cents. We stayed there two years ago (thankful for the condo as it poured and was 55 degrees the first couple of days) and had the parking pass for the condo, but no forewarning of having to have a camping bracelet to go back and forth to concert. Not really sure if condo owners would know this either. Anyway, I upgraded the first evening there and it was worth it for me. A friend decided he would hoof it and take the roads, which is more than 15 minutes. He was also met by a security officer at the street that the highlands are on. Even though he was walking, they would not let him up without a parking pass. I am not making this up. I assume the Highland Housing association pays this officer, don't believe they are associated with Mountain jam security (a whole different bitch there). So to get to the point, it was worth it for me to upgrade, and my friend did the next day as well.
P.S. He ended up bush whacking his way back to condo that evening and ended up with a nasty rash on his wrist for quite awhile (insert whatever comments you please).

We rented our unit the past two years and there was no problem cutting thru the woods as far as I heard. The opening to the camp area was just at our level. We are a little late on posting but our place is still available, sleeps 4. Free parking.
See huntermountain.wordpress.com for details.
