Hey ya'll-
First time MJ goer here, but semi seasoned festival goer. Been to Firefly, Gathering of the vibes, and now Wormtown in Mass twice. This will be my most recent festy experience. I was just curious as to if anyone could provide any insight on the differences in camping/the overall experience of camping at MJ. Is it worth it to have car side camping if your splitting it with your whole campsite. Would the camping experience be less/ more watched upon in the car camping areas? Ill be completely honest in saying I want to camp where the party is at. Also Ive read a few different things about where to set up a spot on the mountain and that it can get quite steep depending on where you land. Any insight or information on some or all of the camping experience/differences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone and I cant wait to Jam out with all of you! One love.

Hi there and big welcome to Mountain jam! You're going to love this festival!
I've done this festival without a car, and with, and this year our official forum camp will be on Mountain top car camping. I like car camping because you don't have to lug all your gear up the hill to your spot. So it all depends on what you are willing to do. This is an absolutely fabulous festival with a real welcoming feel to it. Once you go a few times people get to know you. We are one very big family. If you do by chance get mountain top, of yourself you'd be welcome to camp with the official forum campsite.
For this forum we will also have a sign up list so you can text me either issues, problems or if you want to meet up with us. We have a pre mountain jam meet up at MacGregors pub, and an official forum BBQ on Saturday that everyone's welcome to attend.
So give us some specific questions and we will do our best!

I think you have an equal chance of finding young party people in both car camping and tent camping. Tent camping is the cheapest option, which I have found tends to lead to the youngest crowd who are more cash strapped and would rather spend their money on some extra cases of beer than a parking spot. That being said, the Car Camping 1 area is the closest non-VIP/non-Mountaintop campground and is generally flat, whereas the tent camping is definitely on the mountain. I camped in car camping last year, and it was great to be able to get to and from the stage quickly when I wanted to "rehydrate" or chill at camp.
I personally would avoid the Near Car and Riverside campgrounds. They are definitely removed from the action, and while I'm sure there is still some serious partying that goes one there, it is much more of a trip to get to and from the stages.
I'm doing mountain top camping this year, but I expect the crowd to be a bit older, since the passes are marked up quite a bit more than normal car camping. I still plan on partying, but let's just say I'm past my prime drinking games age. There won't be any beer pong or flip cup played at my campsite, and I'm more likely to be sipping bourbon or drinking a craft beer than shotgunning Natty Light. My campground choice this year was more focused on quickly getting to the stages and being able to hear the music from my own site.

What you can't see on the map is that there is a good hill to climb from riverside. Early MJs when we were in our twenties it was funny being out of shape. Ten years later... that hill ain't happening.

Hi all-newbie here as well but like deadtilidie-pretty schooled in festivals. I have a car camping pass...does anyone know if there will be a family camping option? I have a 3 year old and in order for us to enjoy the festival he will need to sleep . Will you hear the music from the stage in the standard car camping option? Thanks for all your help! Jonathan

There is a designated ada/family area......but it appears there is not a separate ticket option for it. Probably first come first served? Might be worth an email......info@mountainjam.com.
You can hear music from the stages all over the mountain - obviously some areas are louder and clearer. If you're worried about your 3 yo not getting to sleep - don't. He'll be worn out and ready for downtime. I'm sure he'll let you know when he's ready.

I camp with my car, gives me security of being able to lock up valuables and I can carry more to make sure I can enjoy the festival fully. I didn't feel it attacted more attention from security wondering what we are up to......
Just bring earplugs. You can't pick your neighbors and mine last year were thirty plus years younger and had opposite sleep patterns so they stayed up all night/morning and they talked and partied like they were the only people on the mountain. The mountain is steep, It took a while to adjust to the angle but its manageable or you move until you find a more level area within the confines of where they randomly put you.

I have an on-site parking pass for the weekend, all car camping and campground passes are sold out. Is sleeping in the car while parked in the parking lot prohibited?

I'm not sure if this is the same user but let's start again.
If it's one night and it's isolated, yes no problem... but if you're planning on sleeping in your car all weekend, I'm not too sure it's allowed. If you clarify, I will email mj for you.

Hello Everyone! This is my first MJ festival and I'm going solo. I enjoy music a lot and I'm open for enjoying this festival to the fullest... I'm 38 yo so I'm not sure if I'll be able to hang out all the time with people much younger than me... but I'll definitely be partying a lot. When I purchased tickets I thought it would be simpler for me to go without (renting) a car but I have no clue about where to camp, the best time to arrive etc. I'd be arriving on Thu 6/15 around 6 pm. Is it too late to find a good camp spot and assemble my camp tent? Id love to meet people and I'm interest in participating in the forum meetings etc Let me know about this lists and I hope to see you all in the mountain! Cheers!
