That is an excellent review and I shared it on FB. I agree with everything you had said. As much of a Franti fan as what I am.... i left not far into his set. same old same old.... i did however get pictures of ken with Franti and was happy to see one of our own up on the box. with him. The sense I got from this Franti show was that it was a forced "happy happy joy joy". It used to be easy for him to come bouncing out on stage... and seemed greatful that he was there performing.... now, this one time I got the feeling I was watching someone who's thought is they've made it, and now, it's a "forced try". this was my own impression.... Sean Lennon was my under card favorite. being such a huge John Lennon fan, a lot of his songs reminded me of something from the '67 era, of Sgt Peppers or magical mystery.... i didn't have coin on me at the time so I begged Jead to come with me while I emptied his pockets to buy a disc from the artist tent. (I hope I remembered to pay him back) Hehehe. I figured I'd listen to it on my long drive home from mountain jam yet I chose the Grateful Dead and jam on channels on my XM radio. I also think the bringing on of Pretty lights for the latenight was a genius move. Saint didn't want to check them out so Jead and I went and both of us were pleasantly surprised.to see so many people at the venue for a dubstep act was good.

I kind of burned out on Franti two years ago after annual Mt. Jam & Red Rocks shows for several years. It was getting same old same old.
That being said, I enjoyed this year's MJ set. Maybe a two year break helped, or that he brought some of his more political work, or that Ken played such a big part. Whatever- it was fun.
I wonder, though, if some of the forced nature of the set was due to the story he told about his younger son being diagnosed a few weeks ago with a kidney disease. Being up front, it was clear that was weighing heavy - he was openly weeping during the song he wrote for his son.

That's so sad. I know a man has to make a buck and they cannot just up and cancel shows, but it's sad to be away from home when personal issues arise.
The day before, Franti looked like he was having a blast chilling at the soundboard and periodically waving his hand high in the air while Damien Marley was on stage.
