How about if we just have Franti run security? The women wouldn't mind being felt up. He could personally ask everyone how they are feeling? He'd look the other way with the weed. Instead of patting down and emptying bags people could just jump jump and he could listen for weapons. People love him, they would not sneak stuff in on him.

I tried watching the video from the show. The start and stop of the songs was strange at the beginning - hype building to nowhere. The DJ made mistakes and you can see Franti turning around to try to get a better job from the guy. Franti was also out of tune a lot - especially when he was running around the crowd. For all the jumping, hands-up, and how you feeling crap to get the crowd into it this show seemed really boring musically. The drummer was the most interesting part of this band.
Oh well...give the people what they want.

Yet - somehow people managed to enjoy themselves...

Considering the vibe of the crowd, and the people I spoke to afterwards, those of you complaining and hating on the show were in the definite minority. Hey next year use the franti time to go buy dinner or something.

I don't think complaining and hating is entirely accurate. MJ is filled with bands that you search for recordings of the next week because you heard something new, something unique in something old. My first few Franti shows were like that. Then it became a once a year fix. Then, as suggested, a perfect time to grab something to eat. We had a first time jammer with us this year and we agreed that he could not claim to have been at MJ without being down front jumpin with Franti. The man that stands 6'6" above sea level has a tremendous place in MJ history and is the personification of the rainbows and sunshine (literally) that is 4 days of peace and love. He is a draw for the majority, which means that I had great spots for Anders Osborne and CRB while the majority ate and stretched. However, there are many great bands that don't play every year. With some commercial pop success Franti is one of the more expensive acts to book at the expense of another new act or a few smaller ones. Having that hole in my daily schedule is a bit of a bummer. And when Franti is bumming you out something is wrong. Even if you are a Franti fan- would you trade him at MJ 11 for the Black Crowes? Lucinda Williams ? Three of those smaller names on your wish list?

This was our 3rd(all in a row) Mountain Jam and the first year we were not even interested in Franti. But we saw him in the Awareness Village and thought it was fun. The next year we were there secured in our "spot" on the Mountain and saw his whole set and loved it. THIS year we were looking forward to seeing him and loved it again. My wife even ran into him while out at our car in the parking lot. That being said,if they decided not to bring him back it would be OK with us. We like diversity over repetition and thats the main reason we are not going back to Lock'n Festival this year. As much Dead related artists and sets that there will be,which we would enjoy,we cant do all the other repeats on the line-up. Looking forward to next festival season already!

YES most definitely..... as everyone knows, I LOVE Franti. That being said though, I'm finding his sets are tiring now..... Its the same show over and over.... I don't want to hurt the fans feelings here but I've been to over 100 Franti Shows from all over 2 continents. He is a great performer, I love what his word is.... but the feel in my opinion.... is that money is paramount, and the word isn't now.
I'm wishing that Lucinda takes Frantis spot. I want that raspy voice on the mountain next year.

Glad I'm not the only one that didn't enjoy his terribleness. It felt a bit uncomfortable waiting for the Brothers while teenagers danced around me to what sounded like a popular radio station. Damian Marley made him seem like a child. Was a killer weekend all together though!!

It felt a bit uncomfortable waiting for the Brothers while teenagers danced around me to what sounded like a popular radio station. MJ 1 closing out my twenties. MJ 10 beginning my forties. Damn teenagers get off my lawn and away from my radical fest! Or as Big Bear put it last year as our RV got hit with a frisbee a second time. Window click open, HEY! THATS TWICE!" window slam shut. I said "Dude, you're old." I would like to replace Franti with Mr. Clarence Carter. Dirtiest show I've ever been to, not for teens.
