Yea Spark, I specifically asked on the fbook page the other day about the new stage setup and haven't heard back yet. It is annoying how they avoid topics that people want to know about. Especially new ones. I did hear that they changed the stage b/c of the Country Fest, and if that's true that is just plain WEAK. I'm still going too but why fix shit that aint broke?

It shows a lack of understanding by the new promoters of what makes MJ unique. I know the original MJ promoters are still involved but the new group in - Townsquare Media - is probably running the show. They're a large radio/event company that owns over 300 stations and produces a bunch of events and fests.
The thinking goes, Brad Paisley needs a bigger stage, so Brad Paisley gets a bigger stage. Let's not worry about the 'hippies', because Brad Paisley is better for the bottom line. And maybe this set up is better for the bottom line of MJ too. That's how large companies make decisions.
And that's their right. It's also our right to decide whether or not to purchase thier product. They've made the calculation that enough of us will do so despite a major change in that product. The unfortunate part is being less than upfront about what's going on. Again, it shows they don't get why a lot of people find their product unique.
They also had a chance to open up about the decision, explain the thinking, and make the case as to why the change is good for the festival. That's PR 101. Despite Townsquare Media being in the communications business, I'm not positive they understand how to engage with their customers in any sort of meaningful way.

WDST has taken a back seat.... we knew that last year.. and knew big changes were in store for us. sad to see this, yet the stages aren't why I go to this festival, it's for me personally, the meet up of our group, the music, then the mountain.... but the stages were a big plus for me. I wanted to bring one of my best friends with me this year, because of the stage change, it won't happen. She's got a severe case of degenerative bone disease so walking from stage to stage is out of the question. Does anyone know of other festivals that have side by side stages? Enquiring minds want to know.

the Lockn' festival just south of Charlottesville Va has two stages side by side and NO overlapping music at all! We went last year and although it was the first year and they had major traffic problems I think it will be fixed this year. We are NOT going again this year because the line-up is way to similar to last years. Other than that it was a Great Festival and should be going forward!

Wanee doesn't have side by side stages and it is a bit of a hike between the two stages where most the music takes place. But the main stage is dominated by a chair ethos that leads to a lot of people just camping out there for the day and not walking over to the smaller stage. But the overall layout of the site does lead to a lot of walking based on where you camp, so I don't know if it would work great for those who have a hard time getting around - though it's a hell of a lot flatter than MJ!
It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out. Ultimately if the music is good, that makes up for logistical headaches.

StrangeCreek on Memorial Day weekend and Wormtown in September have 2 main stages side by side. Both festivals are in Greenfield MA. at a place called Camp Kee-Wanee. they also have 2 smaller stages in the woods. most of the camping is also in the woods. They are much smaller than MJ. It's one of Zach Deputy's favorite places to play, Hence the song Wormtown. Of course Max Creek always plays there too.

I was cool with the country pop festival and all the cowboy hats taking over town.. But these divas with their big stages - forcing a change in the MTNJam stage setup... puuuuuuulease...
Now - I'm not so good with Country fest....

Although All Good is taking a break this year, it has side by side stages (discounting the campground stage). Look for it to be back in VA in 2015. I assume they will use that same stage by stage set up at Legend Valley for the DarkStar Jubilee and Werk Out.

I checked around after the line up and all the hotels/inns I could find in Hunter were booked. But there was availability down the road in Tannersville.
