Post subject: New stage setup
Did anybody check out the new setup this year ? Seems like they have moved the smaller stage from the main concert field to over by the learning center. Which makes me think that we will have dueling stages this year. This could suck because now you have the crowd shifting between stages in such a small area...no more staying put with your spot on the mountain. On the bright side, this might mean more bands overall.

I hope that's not accurate. The two stages together seemed like it always worked out. That's one thing that was not broken and didn't need fixing...

I think the stages are the same. They calling the inside hall a stage. Things are good...

This was taken from the Mtn Jam site, the country fests festival map is different,only 1 stage.

Local rumor guy checking in...

heard that the headline of the Country fest demanded a longer stage by like 200' or some ridiculous number.. Affected the way the stages sit next to each other or don't sit next to each other... Not sure what that means..

I asked that question on facebook twice now and also emailed them.....no answer. I hope this is not the case or I may be selling my tickets (again) this year.

I doubt that this is the case. Maybe they moved it for Country Fest and will move it back for MJ X? Not sure, but I don't see why they would mess with the side by side stages. That worked perfect. Either way, i will be there.

I have a bad back (5 surgeries on discs) so trying to move back and forth between stages, especially on sloped terrain, is not really an option for me. I just can't justify paying that price for only seeing half the lineup. I usually post up and stay put, maybe hitting the port-a-john twice all day. But if I can get 2 nites of Mule and String Cheese Incident is playing I will have to suck it up...lol

I heard the same thing about the stage.
Some country headliner is requesting a larger stage so there's no room for the small stage to be next to the large.

I checked the MJ FB page....There is a stage change... the other stage is separate from the main one... one will have to move between shows.

Just another example of how Mountain Jam is changing since the Country Fest was added onto the coat-tails of an already working Festival. I totally understand consolidating the two into one set-up(they did it last year) I just cant help but think that the promoters are giving way to what they feel is going to be more $ going forward(the country fest) and Mountain Jam ends up paying the price.  Already bought tix and Still Going! as of now that is!

That is so stupid... One of the best and most unique things about Mt. Jam was the stages being next to each other. Why tinker all the time and mess with a good thing? This is unfortunate.

The new stage set up is wildly disappointing, as is the silence from Mountain Jam on the change (at least from what I've seen). As others have pointed out, the side-by-side set up for the two main stages was perfect and really set MJ apart from other fests.

Will the music still alternate between stages or will both be going on at the same time? Either would be a significant change & it would be nice if MJ opened about how it's going to work. I fear their silence means we're not going to like the answer.

I find it very hard to believe that they would actually change the main stage set up for Mt Jam. I don't think I believe this one either

Last years festival map also only showed one main stage.

Are you sure? I'm pretty sure the map has always shown the two in the past.

No, it's true the moderator on MJ's facebook stage said there is only one main stage this year. The main stage is bigger instead of having the side by side, which I think is stupid b/c everybody loves the side by side way. Not sure where the secondary stage is going to be placed. From the map, it looks like somewhere near the entrance of the campsites. Should be weird. Someone said it's so they get you to walk by the vendors, so you will dish out more money. lol I wouldn't doubt it. Who knows, we may even like it. Prob not though because the side by side was pretty awesome.

We're all still going. I'm just disappointed MJ hasn't been more transparent about their plans. Yes, we see the map and the post on Facebook acknowledging the separate stages. But since it's such a big change, maybe a bit more explanation is in order.

Who knows - it might be a great change. But without any sort of context or details, the assumption is going to be it sucks. Staying silent only fuels that.

Agreed Sparky - I had a long post sort of prepped blasting the change but it really serves no purpose..... MJ does many things well and some things need some improving - The former stage set up is one thing that I NEVER heard people complain about..... NEVER! Shoot, if it was no good - I would have complained about it.

I have to admit this is the first year I've had lukewarm feelings about MJ. There are lots of changes and it seems like there isn't a whole lot of justification for many of them. It was - and still can be - a beautiful little Festival - but it feels to me as if the spirit and vision of the founders has gone astray.
