2013 was my first year on the mountain and prior to it, I read up on how the security presence was. everything i read sounded like a horror story, even someone said that undercovers camped all over the mountain like they were apart of the crowd. but once i actually got there the searching of the car wasn't bad at all and didnt take more than a few minutes. once we got into the fest, it was a free for all and i don't think i saw one cop the entire weekend. i guess a part of the mountain was robbed Sunday during Phil and security didn't do anything about it? what has everyone here experienced years prior to 2013 with security?

It has varied from year to year. In 2010 there were a lot of reports of rude and overzealous security personnel, and it seems that the festival organizers heeded those complaints (and switched to a different security company) because security has been a bit more relaxed since then. Last year on the other hand, the general consensus seems to be that security was a little too relaxed. As you said, there were numerous reports of theft. I can also personally attest to the fact that people were being allowed into areas they weren't supposed to: I was able to enter both the car camping and tent camping areas without a camping ticket.

There was undercover security walking around last year and also rumors of an onsite judge which I didn't see. But for me personally, this will be my 4th year and my group has never had a problem so far(knock on wood). The guys we have dealt with have been cool. I've heard the horror stories of others but can only say what I have come across and it's been positive.

A lot of people complain about security, but compared to the total number of people who go, there really arent a lot of complaints. This will be my 6th year and I've never had a problem. security cant be everywhere at once (people would complain about that too if they were). theft isnt the fault of shitty security, thats just shitty people.

I have been to a few festivals and Mountain Jam has the most laxed security I have seen. I have been to Allgood a couple of times and you want to talk about undercover? We have never had to worry about being searched and actually had a police officer help carry a cooler to our campsite from the entrance at Mountain Jam in 2012. Just dont be an ass. Meet your neighbors and other folks around you and watch out for each other. Security is a necessity at these types of things. I do agree, it only takes one incident for everyone to jump on the bandwagon and bash security. That also does not mean that sometimes, security gets on a power trip and takes things too far. It happens, sadly.
