Hey there! Amazingly this will be my first MJ. (It's taken me long enough to finally attend) I've got a cpl logistical questions I was hoping some ppl could answer because they will probably affect the way I prepare and pack. I will be tent camping but a friend of mine will be car camping with a group. As long as I have a camping wristband will I be able to access the car camping area? If this is the case I will have him bring some of my provisions (food, clean clothes etc.) in his vehicle and I will retrieve them as the weekend wears on. Is reentry allowed? and can you take the shuttle back and forth to the satellite parking area for the duration of the weekend? If this is the case I can leave some things in MY car and go and retrieve them as I need them. Upon arrival for tent camping do you drop your stuff off curbside and come back to pick it up, or do you go set up your spot and then go and park your car at the off-site parking? This statement from the arrival instructions is kind of vague to a first timer like myself- "As in previous years, tent campers will be able to drop their items off at the mountain to set up camp before taking their car to our free off-site lot for the weekend. They will then be taken back to the mountain on our free shuttle." If it is "drop your stuff off at the curb" style what do ppl do if they are arriving solo? Is your stuff just piled there for anyone to grab, or checked, or what? Sorry if this seems a bit anal, but I'm trying to plan this as lightweight, backpacking style, rather than cart a 100 lbs of stuff, a living room, and a cpl cases of beer up the mountain with a wagon. Thanks! Roberto (The weather is looking pretty good btw!! )

Yes, a camping pass will get you access to all camping areas.
Yes, re-entry is allowed, and yes, you can take the shuttle back and forth as many times as you want.
As for dropping off camping gear when you're by yourself, I don't have a good answer. Most people drop someone with their stuff so it isn't left unattended. You might have to just park in the off-site lots and make a few shuttle trips back and forth with your stuff. Can anyone else offer some guidance on this?

I wouldn't leave anything unattended. Park off site and shuttle in what you need for your camp in multiple trips. If your friend will have room at the end to take your stuff, then all you'll need to do is shuttle back to your car at the end.
Enjoy the show

THANKS!!!!
I kind of presumed all of that was the case however as we get closer to it I wanted to just make sure. Frankly, that solves ALOT of planning confusion on my part.

All good Roberto. Between last year and this year's posts, you should find most answers to your questions.
Enjoy the music

I also just noticed that it says cooking with an open fire is not allowed in tent camping, does that mean only the tent camping on the slopes or also tent camping next to your car?

Does anyone know about how far away the off site parking is ? The location changes every year, but usually within a mile or two.

For "Near Car Camping", about how far are you from your car? Are you camping right next to that designated parkinglot? Short walk to your vehicle?
It also seems like that is off on the far side from all the action. True?

Can I use a small grill in the VIP camping area?

From their arrival instructions on the mountain jam website: What to leave at home: Grills and stoves with a grilling surface larger than 450 square inches (20”x22.5” or 15”x30”). Open flame and cooking of any kind is prohibited in the tent camping area. If you want any more clarification on that matter I'd message them on Facebook they're good about getting back to people

Hey...so what do I have to worry about in terms of theft/security in the car camping locations? Do I have to put everything away when we make our way to the stages (or get our 4 hours sleep)? This is our first time at MJ...been to many smaller festivals and always some minor issues but wondering how much I need to plan/worry about it. Thanks! TWO days!!!!

There was some theft issues last time I was in regular tent camping but I think the state troopers took care of it. Never had any issues in car camping. Obviously keep any valuables either on your person, in your tent, or in your car. I wouldn't be too worried about it though just be smart, and don't leave things lying out in the open while your gone although I certainly have on accident with no issue. If you want to bring anything to the Stage area that you aren't allowed to have just be somewhat discrete generally security is lax but it depends on the personnel at that check point. We would put beers in our hoods of our hoodies last time
