Hi there, This year is the first year I'll be attending, really looking forward to it! I'm driving to Hunter, but I saw on some sites that traffic can be bad, and something about police checkpoints? I know sobriety checkpoints are legal, but do they search your car? I'm not a lawyer but I've watched a lot of TV and that wouldn't seem legal without probable cause. Any driving/travel tips would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

From watching TV we have also been taught that if the PoPo don't read you your Miranda rights you walk. Not true.
They don't need much for probable cause. They love pulling people over at the check points for expired registrations, seat belts, headlights, etc...
As always, use your head and don't give them a reason. You have four days to cut loose, no need to start early. Once you get off the Thruway drive like you are on your driver's test.

Once there expect some level of car search, gear search, patdown... this will vary greatly on day, gate, and general attitude from both security and Jammer. Over the years I've had a couple of cans of beer stopped, usually on Sunday. Most interactions have been more humorous. RV searches have been more just opening the fridge and a few cabinets.

I agree with MBrow. When you get to the main road, do the speed limit, no more. Don't act or look suspicious unless you want to test your civil rights.
Getting into the festival, I assist security and pack everything in clear containers for quick inspection and if treat them the same way you want to be treated and it should go smoothly.
If you don't attempt to bring anything into the fields at the festival, then you won't have anything to worry about.
Enjoy.

Oh...and if you review the this topic in last year's forum, some people were more specific on what roads to drive on with larger vehicles....if that applies to you
