Hi MoreMonday,
From my experience, most people start lining up around seven thirty in the morning for around a nine entrance to the camping areas. The folks that organize this are pretty good at getting you thru security and up the mountain in a professional manner.

Does anyone know if there will be a police presence this year? I got there at 10pm last Thursday so there was barely anyone at the gate, but the year before I watched car after car get looted by the Cops.

Hi Wappy,
Last year I was there about an hour ealier than you. In the line up for the car inspection, I didn't notice one officer in line to inspect my car. There were plenty of security, which was good to hurry the process up but as for police, didn't notice any.
I'm sure there will always be some sort of security and police presence during the check in period and during the whole festival but the last few years, it's been a lot less than I remember people complaining about 4-5 years ago.

I got there on friday last year and my car got looked through by the "security" there. They definatly were not cops. The cops were at the front gate though. In the Q & A with gary, he said that the state police were laying back and letting the county police take over. Might be a good thing, considering most every staty I passed on the road in had somebody pulled over. Just do the speed limit and you should be fine. The stray sate troopers I passed didn't even blink an eye at me.

Just don't take exit 21 to Hunter and you'll be fine! If you are coming from the north, or south, just take 1 exit earlier and take the back roads. Its a beautiful drive, one of the reasons I'll be eventually moving out there, and you don't have to worry about anyone except the Sherriff's Department when you drive through the towns and those guys aren't looking to cause you any trouble

Here's a crazy idea....Just don't bring illegal shit and the cops won't have to do their job with you!
I love it how it's so bothersome to everybody going to the festival that it's not in international waters where laws don't apply. How dare law enforcement actually enforce the laws. If you want to blame someone for the police presence, blame the event organizers for putting pot leaves and shrooms in their promotional materials and singing the praises of drugs in every other social media post they make.
If the KKK was having an event and cops were there confiscating their weapons, crosses, gas cans, nueses, and Nazi flags and they were crying about it, everybody here would be laughing at them and happy that law enforcement was doing their job. But God forbid you aren't allowed illegal drugs or 18 year olds bringing in cases of beer at a festival that is for all ages with kid stages and stuff, that's infringing on your constitutional rights.

Um... I'm sorry but comparing the KKK and weapons to hippies and some herbs is a gross mischaracterization of both parties. You realize is is a musical festival right? Busting people for doing things that has no potential to harm anyone but themselves and arresting clans men, a racist hate group, for parading around with deadly weaponry is such an odd comparison. Hope you have fun this year though and those damn hippies don't spoil your time too much!

I did that on purpose to show how ridiculous it was. The irony is that legally, the KKK has the right to assemble and the freedom of speech. Cops go to those events to protect them and others. Their flags and crosses would never be confiscated. Weapons can be carried with permits or could be bats or knives with blades under 3.5". All protected by the constitution and laws.
Illegal drugs...are illegal.
So you missed the point of my argument because you feel entitled to break the law, knowing what you are doing is illegal, and then cry about being persecuted. Don't tell me how weed never hurt anybody because I drive over the speed limit and after I have a few drinks. I know both are wrong, I pray to God I don't hurt anybody, but I'm aware of the legal consequences of my actions and, "I didn't hurt anybody" after doing 60mph in a 25mph school zone after knocking a few back at happy hour doesn't cut it.
Just like the arguments for being allowed to break the law because music is being played.

Jimmy adult who understands the concept of risk versus reward, the legal system, and taking responsibility for your actions.
I completely support the legalization of marijuana, think it's stupid for it to be illegal, but that's not my arguement. If you wanted to protest at the event with signs and stuff I'd fully support it. If you wanted to protest by lighting up a joint, I'd support your arrest.
Going back to the KKK references (Kock Khoking Klowns)...they are as passionate about their beliefs as weed smokers, but when they lynch someone the bast arms should get the chair. Being passionate about your beliefs and acting out based on them doesn't trump the law. Sorry.
Just used the Klan reference to show that everything I said about them was a legal freedom they had. Weed, or any other recreational drug, is illegal in NY. End of arguement.

Hey man I'm not saying you should expect to be able to break the law without consequences, that's the choice you made. Nor do I expect to be allowed to break the law because music is playing. But regardless people will as is expected at music festivals. The mountain jam forum seems like an odd spot to attack people for breaking the law and saying they're crying for being persecuted. People were just discussing ways to avoid the cops. But hey you want to make your argument here of all places go for it

I just wanted to help some people out after hearing some of the stories they've encountered. As long as your courteous and not an asshole to staff/cops you usually are fine anyway. I also suggested that route because it is in my opinion one of the most beautiful drives in NY as you dip between mountains and forestry. The skipping of Police Traps is just an added bonus, but I do agree with your sentiment. If you bring something you know you could get in trouble for, just take it like a man and deal with the consequences, but I don't think anyone here is arguing that.
